Most of us probably know that the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales offer some of the biggest price drops. But did you know that VPN Christmas deals can be just as good?
So, if you’ve missed the end of November sales, fret not. You may be able to get the same discount over the December holiday period.
Like most of us (or so I imagine), I like saving money. So, when a big sale period rolls around, I put in my time and diligently check up on all the VPN providers I’m aware of to see what sorts of deals they offer.
On the one hand, I like to find great prices on services I haven’t yet had a chance to play around with. Picking up a longer-term subscription at pennies to the dollar gives me plenty of time to do so.
On the other hand, I also very much look for significant discounts with VPNs I know and like. If I can extend or get a new subscription at 25% or less of the normal cost, I would be crazy not to do it (or at least, so I tell myself).
So, with that in mind, below is a list of the top VPN sales I have been able to find for this Christmas season. If you’re already looking at any of these providers, this is a good opportunity to save a bit of money.
The Xmas Deals
PureVPN [88% off]
With several thousand servers in 131 countries, I doubt any of us will ever find a location we want to connect to that PureVPN doesn’t offer. All P2P protocols (including BitTorrent) are allowed, and one account lets you connect up to five devices simultaneously.
The latest client is chock full of advanced features not many other VPNs have. These include protection from malware and viruses, ad-blocking, IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), and the always useful split tunneling.
For the 2019 holiday period, PureVPN is having a massive 88% sale on a five-year plan. In other words, you can pick the service up for $1.32 per month. Over the six or so years that I’ve been using PureVPN, I don’t recall a deal better than that. This discount will be tough to beat.
CyberGhost [79% off]
CyberGhost is one of the few zero logging services out there. They also operate out of Romania which, despite being part of the EU, is surprisingly privacy friendly (meaning no data retention requirements or data sharing agreements).
As I mentioned, 2018 has been a good year for CyberGhost. Not only have they released their new software, but they have also massively grown their server network to over 3600 servers in 60 countries. Server performance has also improved a lot.
With seven concurrent connections allowed with a single account, peer-to-peer support, and the longest money back guarantee of all providers at 45 days, this is a VPN you can’t go wrong with.
This Christmas season CyberGhost is offering a steal of a deal. You can get the service for just $2.75 per month with an 18-month subscription. That translates to an awesome 79% off.
NordVPN [75% off]
I mentioned PureVPN is a provider I always keep an active subscription with. Well, NordVPN is another.
Based out of Panama, this is a VPN that has an absolutely airtight no-logging policy. On the privacy front, they’re up there with the best of the best.
Based on my own speed test, NordVPN is also consistently one of the fastest VPNs you can get. With well over five thousand servers across 60 countries, whether you want to use BitTorrent, stream video or anything in between, they have you covered.
The NordVPN client continues to be one of the simplest and easiest to use. And a generous 30-day money back period gives you plenty of time to kick the tires.
Through the end of December, you can get a three-year NordVPN subscription at a big 75% off. This comes out to just $2.99 per month. For one of the best VPN providers in the market, that’s an excellent deal if I say so myself.
Surfshark [83% off]
Surfshark is a provider that has somehow stayed below my radar until this year. But, after a thorough review of the service, I am very impressed indeed. Even though they’re not as well known, this is a VPN you should not ignore (especially if you like to keep things simple).
From the ground up, Sufshark’s service is built with us users in mind. Starting with what is possibly the cleanest client app of all VPN providers, and ending with an unlimited number of concurrent connections (almost no-one does this!), there’s a lot to like here.
Surfshark’s global server coverage is excellent. They allow torrenting and are on par with other top services as far as privacy (in other words, great encryption options, absolutely zero logging).
With a huge 83% discount this Christmas, you can lock in a 24-month subscription for a dirt cheap $1.99 per month. You can’t even get a cup of coffee for that price these days. So, for a full month of a top-notch VPN service, this is one good deal.
ExpressVPN [49% off]
A VPN provider who may need little introduction, ExpressVPN is one of the most known and respected services you’ll find. With some of the best security features around packed into an oh so easy to use client, this is a VPN that’s an excellent choice for beginners and power users alike.
ExpressVPN’s performance is great, as you would expect from a well-established provider. Their network covers 95 countries, and P2P file sharing is more than welcome. And the 30-day money refund period gives you a lot of time to take everything this VPN has to offer for a spin.
This holiday seasons, ExpressVPN has rolled out a 15-month subscription at a very respectable 49% off. While not the biggest discount when compared against other services, if ExpressVPN has been on your radar, this sale is one I wouldn’t easily pass over.
HideMyAss! [58% off]
Another VPN service that has been around for a long, long time, HideMyAss! is a great all-arounder. Every feature you can expect is there. But where HMA (as they’re also sometimes called) really shines is in their global coverage. With servers in nearly every country on the planet, no other provider does better.
A lot of servers (and not enough time to properly balance them all) sometimes translates to poor performance. That’s not the case here. Every time I speed test HMA, the results exceed my expectations.
One slight area of concern I have with HMA is with their logging policies, mainly since they operate out of the not so excellent for privacy UK. They’re perfectly fine for the vast majority of us, but if you want absolute anonymity, CyberGhost, NordVPN or even Surfshark will serve you much better.
The HideMyAss! discount for the 2019 holiday period is 58% off. It’s not quite as good as their Black Monday sale was, but it still saves you a good amount of money.
Invisible Browsing VPN [56% off]
ibVPN is another provider operating out of privacy-friendly Romania. They’re on the smaller side, but it seems no one has told them to act like it. At a price that many other providers can’t beat, you get a world class service that competes with the best of them.
Invisible Browsing VPN is yet another provider who does things right privacy-wise. No logging and zero data retention is the name of the game.
Torrenting and other forms of P2P file sharing are supported as are all other features you would expect from any top VPN service. ibVPN also runs 178 surprisingly quick servers covering 50 countries seal the deal. Not bad at all for a small-ish company.
The ibVPN Xmas sale gives you 56% off their already low prices. A few percentage points off their Cyber Monday numbers, but very respectable nonetheless.
StrongVPN [42% off]
Thanks to their relatively low profile, StrongVPN manages to mostly fly under the radar of anyone who would prefer VPNs didn’t exist. Think countries like China or companies like Netflix.
On the downside, the smaller size means fewer servers. Twenty-six countries are what StrongVPN offers. Performance is more than good enough, albeit not exceptional. But despite their size shortcomings, depending on how you intend to use a VPN, they may still be worth considering (low key can be a very good thing).
The end of year StrongVPN sale is a very respectable 42% off. That’s nearly half price, and a deal I would take any day.
IPVanish [46% off]
Despite being US owned and operated, IPVanish has an unambiguous zero logging policy. Have you noticed the pattern yet how most of the best VPN providers don’t log?
Offering fast servers in over 60 countries gives IPVanish better global coverage than most of us will need. P2P traffic is allowed as are five concurrent connections. IPVanish also tends to be one of the more innovative VPN operators, taking your privacy to a whole new level with features like IP cycling.
If you’ve missed the Black Friday sale, you’ve unfortunately missed IPVanish’s best discount of the year. That said, the 46% they’re offering for the 2019 holidays is only a few percent off of that best and still gets you an excellent VPN provider for a whole lot less.
TunnelBear [58% off]
For anyone new to the world of VPNs, TunnelBear may just be the service for you. Not only are they easy to set up and use on all platforms, but they’re also super transparent and to-the-point about all their policies (logging and otherwise).
On the subject of logging, TunnelBear does store a bit of data. However, not nearly enough to uniquely identify anyone. They also don’t operate a huge network, with servers in only 22 countries around the world. However, the speed of those servers is something to behold.
One more thing worth mentioning is that if torrenting or P2P is your intended VPN use, you’ll need to look elsewhere (like PureVPN). TunnelBear does not allow it on any of their servers.
For the holidays, TunnelBear is matching the best offer they’ve had all year with a 12-month subscription at 58% off.
For many years, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have been the best times of the year to grab the deepest discounts on VPNs. Not anymore. As the 2019 line-up of VPN Christmas deals shows, there may be a new sheriff in town. When you tell me I can pick up subscriptions with some of the top providers for as much as 88% off, you certainly have my attention. So, if you’ll now excuse me, it’s time I grab myself another VPN.
